Two people sitting closely together in a warm peaceful space symbolizing emotional safety and enduring love

Refuge — A Love Poem About Safety, Connection, and Choosing Each Other

Refugee’s Camp

Love is not in the grand gestures,

not in the fireworks or fleeting sparks.

It is in the quiet moments,

where your breath softens against mine,

and the world fades into nothing but us.

It is the way your hand

finds mine without searching,

the way your eyes

tell me stories

your lips are too afraid to speak.

Love is the space we create

between the chaos and the calm,

a refuge built not on perfection,

but on the raw, unyielding truth

that we choose each other—

again and again,

no matter the storm.

About This Poem — Refuge

Love is often imagined as something loud — dramatic moments, grand gestures, and constant intensity.

But over time, I’ve realized the strongest kind of love is usually quieter than that.

This poem came from thinking about the comfort of being fully known by someone and still being chosen. The peace that exists in small moments — shared silence, familiar touch, and the unspoken understanding built over time.

"Refuge" is about love as sanctuary. Not perfection, not fantasy, but a space created between two people willing to remain through both chaos and calm.

Some love burns brightly for a moment.
Some love becomes shelter.

This poem honors the kind that stays.
